2022
A data visualization memorial wreath by Cathryn Ploehn and Kelsey Campbell in partnership with Gayta Science
Between October 1st, 2021 and September 30th, 2022, there were reported trans and gender-diverse deaths.
Each life lost is represented with a unique bald cypress leaf.
In the United States, bald cypress bear witness to the constant flow of both water and time, showing the spirit and resilience of the transgender community. Their massive root structures enable them to survive hurricanes and floods while protecting riverbanks from damage.

We source our data from Transgender Europe (TGEU) and UK Software Engineer Anna-Jayne Metcalfe. We appreciate their long-standing efforts in monitoring the murders and deaths of trans individuals globally.
